Innovative Parkour Facility in Rubigen
In spring 2024, Vertical Technik AG was commissioned for an exciting project in Rubigen: a modern parkour facility was to be built on the school grounds, nestled in a hilly landscape and specifically designed for young people and parkour enthusiasts. Municipal Councillor René Straumann, responsible for education, youth, and sports, initiated and advanced the project.
The project began with an on-site meeting, during which the construction site and its surroundings were thoroughly examined. The optimal location for the parkour facility was identified to create a safe and diverse training opportunity. Experienced parkour professional Leon Meier from Rubigen was brought in for the creative design. In a workshop, he involved his community in the development and created innovative sketches, which were then transformed into detailed 3D visualizations by Vertical Technik AG.
After the concept phase, the final construction plans were drawn up: concrete and foundation calculations, as well as the tender for civil engineering companies in the region. Requests for proposals for excavation, foundation work, and fall protection provided the necessary cost estimates. The municipality of Rubigen ultimately decided on an offer and awarded the contract.
The project was implemented in close coordination with Municipal Councillor René Straumann, the Head of Construction + Operations Zaklina von Gunten, as well as regional partners such as the landscaping company Meyer and the supplier Vertical Technik AG, represented by Paul Heuberger.
Following a successful coordination meeting in summer 2025, the realization phase began. The new parkour facility features innovative concrete elements, including a round passage, bars, various high walls with different distances, and an area with round elements on an earthen mound. This diverse design offers a wide range of training opportunities for all age groups and promotes physical activity in a safe environment.
This parkour facility offers versatile opportunities to specifically improve technique, strength, and precision, and to build new skills. The walls are ideal for practicing precise landings (Precisions) and controlled jumps, and for increasing accuracy in long or high jumps. On the bars, dynamic movements such as swings, 180° and 360° turns, and fluid transitions can be practiced, while simultaneously strengthening grip. The walls invite Wall Runs and Wall Tricks to refine takeoff, body position, and technique when overcoming heights. A special highlight is the Kong Vault: a powerful jump over an obstacle, supporting oneself with both hands and pulling the legs through between the arms – an essential technique for overcoming obstacles efficiently and with flow. Similarly, Dash Vaults (jumps with a late push-off over the hands) and quick changes of direction can be trained to improve explosiveness and responsiveness.
The facility also offers perfect opportunities for all types of vaults – from Speed Vaults to Lazy Vaults – to cross obstacles cleanly and fluidly. Cat Grabs allow for practicing climbing techniques and hangs, thereby promoting control and grip strength. Last but not least, the bars provide the opportunity for Lache Swings (Monkey Swings) to train coordination and swinging technique while keeping the fun factor high during training.
Visit this parkour facility and improve your skills in a safe and motivating environment. Perfect for training, fun, and fitness – your next parkour adventure awaits!
