New Ruggell Skatepark Opened
With the opening of the new skatepark in Ruggell, the Principality of Liechtenstein now has another high-quality facility for skateboarding, scooters, BMX and inline skating. Right next to the existing pump track, a modern street skatepark was created, developed together with the local scene and tailored to different riding levels.
The new facility was officially opened on May 17, 2025. Even on the opening day, the skatepark attracted numerous visitors and established itself as a new hub for sports, physical activity, and social interaction.
Skatepark Developed Together with the Local Scene
A key component of the project was the early involvement of future users. Requests and ideas from the local skate scene were integrated directly into the planning process.
The development was supported by Swiss professional skateboarder Jonathan Giger, who contributed his many years of experience to the park’s design. Together, the individual obstacles and lines were coordinated to create a varied and authentic street experience.
High-Quality Skate Obstacles with Granite Surfaces
The planning and realization of the skatepark were carried out by Vertical Technik AG. The focus was on a versatile street layout with robust materials and excellent riding characteristics.
A special feature is the high-quality granite surfaces. They provide excellent conditions for slides and grinds while being designed for long-term, intensive use.
The elements of the skatepark include, among others:
- Wide approach element with granite curb
- Roof box with rail and granite ledge
- Manual table with granite surface
- Various rails for different difficulty levels
- Versatile street lines for skateboard, BMX, scooter, and inline
This creates various opportunities for technical tricks, combinations, and fluid lines.
Expansion of the Skatepark
The high level of use following the opening quickly demonstrated that the new skatepark was well-received. Consequently, an expansion of the facility was approved.
Since 2026, an additional quarter pipe has complemented the existing skatepark, opening up further possibilities for transitions, new lines and creative tricks.
Pump Track and Skatepark as a Shared Recreational Space
The skatepark is located immediately adjacent to the existing pump track. Together, the two facilities form a versatile recreational space for children, teenagers, and adults.
While the pump track particularly promotes balance, coordination and riding technique, the skatepark offers numerous opportunities for street skating and technical tricks. This makes Ruggell an attractive meeting place for roller sports enthusiasts from Liechtenstein, Eastern Switzerland and Vorarlberg.
Durable Quality for Intensive Use
In addition to user requirements, the planning focused on durability and low maintenance. Robust steel constructions and resilient granite surfaces ensure that the facility provides consistently good riding characteristics even under intensive use.
With the new skatepark, the municipality of Ruggell is making a long-term investment in sport, leisure and an attractive public space for physical activity.
