Bouldering and climbing facilities for public spaces

Climbing combines movement, strength and coordination – and at the same time creates attractive places for play, sport and social interaction. Vertical Technik AG plans and implements individual climbing facilities for schools, playgrounds, leisure facilities and public spaces.

Our range extends from climbing cubes and bouldering facilities to bouldering walls, climbing rocks, climbing towers and mobile solutions for events. Each facility is developed to suit the location, the target group and the design requirements.

Versatile climbing facilities for diverse requirements

Depending on the location, target group, and use, we develop different forms of climbing and bouldering facilities. The spectrum ranges from compact climbing cubes and bouldering walls to individually designed climbing rocks, climbing towers, and other custom solutions.

The focus is not on individual standard products, but on a suitable solution for the respective site. Design, level of difficulty, materials, and construction are tailored to the project requirements.

Existing terrain features or embankments can also be included in the planning and used as part of a climbing facility. Mobile climbing and bouldering walls are also possible for events and temporary use.

From the initial idea to the finished climbing facility

A good climbing facility is created through dialogue. That is why we offer workshops and participatory planning at an early project stage, where ideas, wishes, and requirements are developed together.

Especially for projects with schools, municipalities, or youth groups, this exchange helps to incorporate different perspectives and develop a solution that is well-received and works in the long term.

On this basis, Vertical Technik AG takes over the further planning, design, production, and assembly of the climbing facility.

Inspection and maintenance

Regular inspections are important to ensure that a climbing facility remains safe and functional in the long term. In addition to the implementation, we offer inspection and maintenance contracts with periodic checks.

This allows wear and tear or damage to be identified early and ensures the operational safety and service life of the facility are maintained in the long term.

Frequently asked questions about bouldering and climbing facilities

What is a climbing cube?

A climbing cube is a three-dimensional bouldering and play object with several differently oriented climbing surfaces. When several cubes are combined, varied routes, transitions, and movement possibilities are created.

What age is a climbing cube suitable for?

Climbing cubes and climbing facilities are suitable for various age and user groups. Depending on the design, they can be conceived for children of kindergarten and primary school age as well as for older children, teenagers, and adults. Different routes, difficulty levels, and climbing surfaces provide varied challenges for beginners and experienced climbers alike.

What skills are promoted through climbing?

Climbing supports strength, coordination, agility, balance, spatial awareness, and the assessment of one’s own abilities. Different routes also encourage children to find solutions independently.

Is a climbing cube facility suitable for a school?

Yes. A properly planned climbing cube facility can be used as a versatile exercise option on school grounds. Site-specific planning, suitable fall protection, clear safety distances, and regular inspections are important.

According to which standard are public climbing cubes planned?

Climbing cubes used as playground equipment in public spaces must comply with the applicable requirements of the EN 1176 playground standard. The specific normative assessment depends on the construction, use, and equipment of the respective facility.

Can the colors be chosen individually?

Yes. Depending on the material and product range, different color tones can be combined.

How much does a climbing facility heat up in the sun?

The surface temperature depends on color, material, orientation, air temperature, wind, shading, and duration of sunlight. Even light-colored surfaces can heat up in direct sun. These factors should be considered during site and color planning.

Can the climbing cube also be used when wet?

Damp surfaces and climbing holds can be more slippery than dry ones. Use must therefore be adapted to the current weather conditions, signage, and operational guidelines.

Can a climbing cube facility be moved later?

A modularly attached facility can generally be dismantled and rebuilt at another location. At the new location, suitable foundations, fall spaces, safety distances, and fall protection areas must be replanned.

How is an outdoor climbing facility maintained?

Maintenance includes regular visual and functional checks as well as periodic main inspections. Items checked include climbing holds, screw connections, surfaces, sliding poles, support structures, anchorages, fall spaces, and fall protection.
