New sports and adventure park in Liestal officially opened
A versatile space for physical activity for all generations
In recent weeks, the Baselland Sports Office in Liestal has created a new, innovative sports and adventure park. Since April 29, 2026, the public has had access to a modern outdoor facility that combines exercise, social interaction and play for all age groups – free of charge.
The new intergenerational park offers a wide range of activities: pétanque courts, a pump track, a giant chessboard, vGYM outdoor fitness equipment and a bouldering wall by Vertical, a pickleball court, as well as other exercise and play options invite visitors to stay active. This creates a low-threshold training and meeting place that enables holistic outdoor training – comparable to a modern indoor gym in the open air.
Official opening with guests from politics and sport
The opening of the facility took place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, in the presence of numerous guests. Those in attendance were welcomed by Thomas Beugger, Head of the Baselland Sports Office, followed by the official address by Government Councillor Markus Eigenmann.
Afterwards, Christian Saladin, Deputy Head of the Sports Office, presented the project in detail. A special highlight was the interview by Daniel Schaub with Olympic participant Mathieu Hersperger from the Rohner four-man bobsleigh team, who provided personal insight into the importance of modern training and activity spaces.
After the official part, guests took the opportunity to try out the new facility themselves and get an impression of the wide range of options.
Exercise, play and social interaction in public spaces
The facility is complemented by robust granite seating benches by Vertical, which are otherwise often used in skateparks. They combine functionality with urban design while also providing durable, aesthetically pleasing seating in public spaces.
In addition, two bicycle parking areas were installed to support convenient and sustainable travel by bike.
A project for the future of movement culture
With the new sports and adventure park, the Baselland Sports Office is sending a strong signal for low-threshold promotion of physical activity, intergenerational use and contemporary sports infrastructure in public spaces.
The location in Liestal is set to establish itself as a vibrant meeting place – for sport, social interaction and active recreation in everyday life.
Acknowledgements
Special thanks go to the Baselland Sports Office, in particular Christian Saladin, for the collaboration and the trust placed in the innovative vGYM outdoor fitness equipment by Vertical, as well as for the opportunity to carry out the installation of the pump track and the other facilities.
